In light of Tumblr’s stance against corporations and the new proposed legislation, I think it’s important to bring up the point against censorship.  RIP! A Remix Manifesto is a documentary that argues against piracy laws, citing that we are no longer a passive audience.  In fact, the general public now wants to create, not just consume.   If these new laws are passed, then it’s not just censorship, but these corporations (and the government) might just be stifling the creativity of many people.  The documentary also goes on to argue that it’s not piracy; it’s remixing.  What do you think?  (And be sure to check out the Neon Tommy’s article on the subject here.)

I fear I’d be unable to provide subjective commentary on this subject because of how I feel about the implications an ad like this poses. I strongly believe tolerance can only be found through education, in all subjects and not just with gender identity. How does everyone else feel about this? - Monica, Neon Tommy

This is a new ad circulating in Canada from a conservative group, warning people not to “confuse” children about their gender identity. Oh, dear. More.

‘Less jobs, more Weiner,’ media pleads: This is the sort of thing that, after what’s already been a very overblown frenzy over the scandal (and today’s resignation) of Anthony Weiner, serves as an instant representation of what’s frustrating us right now. What makes this even worse is that Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly and stridently called for Weiner’s resignation. As the Democratic Leader, that condemnation is part of what Weiner seemed to feel forced his hand. Is there really even anything left to ask her about this? source

This is not a serious bill. Unattached to a budget measure, it will never survive the Senate or a presidential veto. It is designed simply to send a punitive message to a news organization that conservatives have long considered a liberal bastion.
